In a recent posting by David Flash at his clickbait website bigbendtimes.com, Flash tries to claim that there is, once again, something outrageous going on in Jeff Davis County. The post begins:
“Is there a sexual predator roaming free in Jeff Davis County?
We have no idea — and that’s exactly the problem.“
Right at the start this sounds strange. Flash asks if a sexual predator is on the loose, then answers his own question, he doesn’t know. From there David states that he received a tip from a citizen. There is no explanation if the citizen wanted to remain anonymous and if so why, just that he received a tip with no other details:
“The individual reported that a known serial sexual predator allegedly threatened to expose himself in public at the Lowe’s Market parking lot in Fort Davis.
They claimed to have photos, video, time stamps, and location evidence, and said they called 911 — only to be told law enforcement would “get to it when everything opens back up.””
A journalist would ask more, but David leaves it at that. If the individual reports a known serial sexual predator, how is it known? Is this person a registered sex offender? Sounds like this happened after hours since the law enforcement response says they will check it out “when everything opens back up.” Did Flash ask the person reporting this what time it occurred? We have no idea.
What is known is that Flash often writes about himself in the third person. He will often quote his own statements as well. Is Flash writing about a report that he received from a separate person? It’s certainly possible that Flash made up this ‘report’ himself. We have no idea, and that’s exactly the problem.
David claims the person allegedly threatened to expose himself in public. That sounds terrible, but is it a crime? If they had actually exposed themself, then certainly, but that’s not what David describes. Terroristic threats are typically considered a crime, but just saying you are going to expose yourself? I am not a lawyer so I can’t tell you for sure. If the person simply threatened to expose themself but didn’t actually do so, what would the “photos, video, time stamps, and location evidence” show? If one calls 911 to report a crime, but then describes an incident like this that probably didn’t involve an actual crime, should law enforcement jump into action immediately? If there is an ongoing investigation into the incident, should law enforcement be expected to comment to someone before it is concluded?
As far as this reporter can tell, David perhaps actually received a tip, or perhaps made up the story himself, and then reported it to the Sheriff. Remember that Flash has been sending reports and complains and request for information to Jeff Davis County officials for months, perhaps over a year by now. He will likely continue to send endless requests for information about this incident, then turn around and post on his websites about not getting a response. All this to try and generate the feeling of controversy when there is none.
This reporter hopes that anyone who has donated to Flash’s GoFundMe will consider requesting a refund. It doesn’t seem like David is really trying to fight corruption but that he is manufacturing controversy to drive traffic to his clickbait websites.
Jeff Davis County administration and employees be careful. The Flash has admitted on one of his little video casts that due to childhood trauma he should be on medication. Watching his live feeds he seem to be a very unstable soul.
