When our publisher decided to create The Most Trusted Name In News In The Big Bend, they wanted to make sure no one else was doing business under the name they decided on, Big Bend Times. The way to do this is to check the Texas Secretary of State Website and search the name you want. Back in April of 2025 (yes, it’s been a year folks!), nothing came up for Big Bend Times in Texas. We started the website because we wanted to cover important stories in The Big Bend and did not immediately pursue an attempt to register our business name because we were so busy with Doing Journalism. That was a mistake.
After starting the site it became massively successful with support coming from all over the community. The main thing we cover is a sad loser named David Wayne Flash, who operates an AI Slop blog and constantly posts to FB. This December David began harassing a local resident claiming this person is our publisher. He sent strange emails that he claimed were cease and desist letters to this person, claiming they are doing business using his business name. This person forwarded us these emails and our editors and our team of editors will be covering those in a later post. They are hilarious.
Once we were alerted that the sad loser was claiming we are using his “business” name we decided we should go ahead and register with the Secretary of State so that we can protect our business name from The Most Hated Person In The Big Bend. When our corporate leadership team started working on the project, they were horrified. Someone has already registered something too close to our business name. We are very disappointed to say that the business name Big Bend Times is not available in The Great State of Texas. After engaging our legal team they determined the cost of attempting to register our name was very low and we should just ‘give it a try and see what happens.’ Here is the result:
We are sorry to report that we are not able to register the business name Big Bend Times. Our corporate leadership has not been contacted by Big Bend Time Co LLC as of yet, but we expect that we will be. If there is anyone else out there who was hoping to do business under a similar name, you may want to check with your legal team as well.
