The Black Bear Restaurant at the Indian Lodge in the Davis Mountains State Park has been recognized by the editorial team at Big Bend Times Dot Org as having the best salad bar in the tri-county area. Readers may be wondering “But Mike, isn’t it the only salad bar in the tri-county area?” Wise to wonder that but this reporter knows of at least one more. Mary Lou Dutchover at Mary Lou’s Cafe provides customers with a great salad bar. But it’s clear that the salad bar and the Black Bear Restaurant is the best.
Since opening day months ago, employees of the Black Bear have worked tirelessly to provide the community with an excellent buffet. While the salad bar is the best, there is also a hot buffet with excellent breakfast and lunch fares. If one is able to only eat from the salad bar at lunch, the cost is $12. If one wants to include the hot buffet, the price goes up to only $14. It can be fun to try and only eat the salad bar, but this reporter is not often successful.

We hoped to get pictures of the friendly and hard working employees that have made the Black Bear great again, but they were not willing to pose for pictures the day we were there. It may be because of the first time This Reporter went to the Black Bear. Judge Evans and JP Luedecke were there that day and posed for a picture in front of the buffet. Park employees were asked by the others to join in and they did. David Flash used this as an opportunity to retaliate against our site. He filed complaints with TPWD against the park employees, if his mad rantings on FB are to be believed. Our editorial team has not been able to get comments from anyone at the state park and we cannot confirm if Flash actually made the complaint or not. Hopefully the employees were not fired from their jobs as a result of Flash’s attempts to silence this site and his vindictive nature.
